Family clarifies confrontation with school over child’s admission

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, May 27: After a prolonged legal battle to secure his child’s right to education, P Patel, the father, has maintained that the tussle was never intended to challenge the institution, even as he expressed relief over the High Court verdict to restore his son’s admission to St. Edmund’s School, Shillong.

Patel said his son was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) condition, which was the primary reason the family had sought admission to St. Edmund’s School, which they believed offered the sporting infrastructure and disciplined academic environment necessary for his growth.

Patel emphasised that his family had never intended any disrespect towards the school authorities and remained willing to apologise unconditionally if that would help resolve the matter. He said despite the dispute, the family continues to hold the school in high regard and believes the issue arose from an administrative deadlock rather than any failure of the institution itself. He expressed hope that the matter can be brought to a peaceful conclusion.
